SPIRITUAL DIRECTION – Training Programs, Workshops, Seminars
I founded the FRANCISCAN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IN SPIRITUAL DIRECTION AND DIRECTED RETREATS in l981 and was its Director for twenty years. Besides the sessions every year in the USA, I conducted 18 overseas sessions in Europe, Africa and Asia. I trained teams who continue to conduct the Internship in Canada and England.
This was a ministerial program borne out of the conviction that as Franciscans we have something unique to offer others. Our shared charism enables us to bring a distinctive Franciscan approach to our spiritual direction and our other helping ministries. Francis and Clare of Assisi are our role models for a Christian’s response to the Gospel call.

Out of my experience with this three-month
Internship I have developed a wide variety of shorter training
programs and workshops in spiritual direction. These are suitable,
not just for Franciscans, but for anyone – religious, lay, priest –
interested in helping the Spirit to bring others closer to their
God. Many of us are called upon to do some form of spiritual
direction and yet feel inadequate to provide this precious gift.
