INTRODUCTION TO RETREATS

The dictionary defines the meaning of
“retreat” as a verb: to withdraw, retire, or draw back. We couldn’t
ask for a better meaning of “retreat” in a spiritual sense. A
retreat is a chance to draw back or withdraw from our everyday
activities. It gives us a chance to check in with God and see where
we are headed in our lives, where we have come from, but most of
all where are we right in this present moment – the NOW moment. The
only way we can do this is by allowing God into out hearts and
opening ourselves to the grace of the Spirit. If we aren’t sure
where we are, we will never know where God wants to lead us. So we
retreat in order to go forward! A retreat enables us to regroup and
renew our spiritual energy through prayer and God’s grace.
We can do this in several ways. One way
is by making a personally directed retreat and sharing the fruit of
our prayer with a director. Others prefer to do it in a group with a
faith-filled retreat director leading the group in guided
reflections. A description of these two kinds of retreats I like to
share and accompany retreatants on follows...
